Discernment of Private Revelation

Claims of Private Revelation: True or False?
An evaluation of the messages to Geraldine of Sydney, Australia
under the name "Divine Inspirations"

Return to the Main List
In my humble and pious opinion as a Roman Catholic theologian, faithful to the Magisterium, and a Bible translator, the claimed private revelations to a formerly-anonymous woman, Geraldine Kearney, in the form of messages posted on her website (divine-inspirations.org), are not true private revelations from God.

Geraldine of Sydney Australia (http://www.divine-inspirations.org/home.html) -- [formerly] anonymous locutionist, known only by her first name. The messages exalt the visionary, praising her constantly, speaking as if she were among the holiest Saints, and claiming that she will certainly be saved: "your eternal reward in Paradise my child is great like for your sister who proceeded you.... I speak of my child Saint Faustina." True visionaries are subject to the same conditions for salvation as anyone else. It is a mark of false private revelation that the visionary is claimed to be certain to be saved, or is claimed to be a Saint. The Church does not declare anyone to be a Saint before death, nor before a long process of examination. Only the messages of false visionaries would speaks as if the visionary were a Saint, before death and the judgment of the Church.

The messages to Geraldine portray Jesus and Mary as suffering, even though they are in Heaven. To the contrary, the Church teaches that no one in Heaven suffers; all have perfect happiness. The messages go so far as to claim that Jesus in Heaven is in pain and is crying. The messages also portray Jesus and the visionary as together doing the will of the Father, as if Jesus' will were not the will of God, or as if the visionary and Jesus were nearly equal.
