For God so loved the world,
That he gave his only son,
Now the keys of heaven are safe again,
And death is overcome.
Who could ever understand
The Father's pain and loss,
To place his son in agony,
And death upon the Cross?
Who could ever match the faith,
And love of Jesus Christ,
Who gave his life in service,
Gave it up in sacrifice?
Oh Holy Spirit, help us know,
The blessings that the cross bestows.
Unite with him our suffering,
That with the angels we might sing,
And let our final resting place,
Be with God in heaven,
Face to face.
